The Hartford Times has been selected as one of 205 small, local news outlets across the U.S. to receive a portion of $20 million in funding from Press Forward, a national initiative aimed at revitalizing local journalism. This grant will support efforts to address coverage gaps and deliver essential stories to the community.
Press Forward received more than 900 proposals from news organizations, reflecting the urgent need for stronger local news. Initially planning to fund fewer organizations, Press Forward doubled its support to include a broader range of outlets across every state, demonstrating a deep commitment to strengthening the local news ecosystem.
The Hartford Times joins a diverse group of independent and non-partisan newsrooms across the country. These outlets represent a wide spectrum, from rural publications serving large, underreported regions, to organizations focused on communities of color and linguistically diverse populations that traditional news outlets often overlook. Each newsroom plays a crucial role in providing the everyday stories people rely on to make informed decisions.
With this grant, The Hartford Times is poised to continue its mission of delivering high-quality, reliable journalism to the Hartford area and beyond.
