Our Work

What We Do

We are building a non-partisan civic engagement platform to promote community-driven narratives and multigenerational solutions. Here’s how we are working to achieve our goals:

Producing Solutions Oriented Journalism

Hartford needs a shift in how we understand and shape our city. We produce solution-oriented stories and advocate for the public interest to build a stronger, more inclusive city.

Our goal is to elevate constructive public discourse to allow our city to see better options, build agency, and hope to achieve meaningful change.

The Hartford Times produces solutions journalism to earn trust, increase civic engagement, drive social impact, and demand accountability from our leaders.

Promoting Pride of Place

Hartford shoulders the responsibility and expense of the region’s tax-exempt government, human services, and cultural assets. Yet, neighboring communities lack an affinity, respect, or appreciation for our urban core.

We believe Greater Hartford must unite and self-identify as one city, one community — as one Hartford.

The Hartford Times promotes a regional identity recognizing Hartford as the epicenter of our shared culture, resources, and opportunities. We define Hartford as our city limits, our metropolitan region, and the capital of Connecticut politics, law, and policy.

Championing Social Change

Hartford suffers from the consequences of institutional racism and short-sighted public policy decisions resulting in a disconnected community and a socioeconomic divide in our city.

We believe Hartford is in need of more compassionate content and consistent citywide interaction to reconnect us to each other.

The Hartford Times produces brave, empathetic content and inspiring events to reunite us.

Inspiring Civic Action

Hartford’s election turnout rate in 2023 was 13.74% — just 4,701 people elected the mayor of Connecticut’s capital city. This is especially disheartening given our official nickname is “The Constitution State.”

We believe voter turnout is the most important measure of an engaged citizenry. One of our primary metrics of success is our ability to increase voter participation in our city.

The Hartford Times works to increase political participation and the collective power of our community to achieve public policy that reflects our shared values.

Connecting Hartford with important information, stories, and events to build a more inclusive, compassionate, and stronger community.
