It’s about to get a lot more colorful in Parkville with the grand opening of Parkville Art Gallery. The celebration is set for Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 1429 Park Street, Suite 204, from 6pm-9pm.
The Gallery Opening show includes artists Andy Hart, Michael Rice, Chris Gann, Allan Weitz, Alex Ranniello, Mary Ruth Shields, Keith Claytor, Anthony Zito, Gary Jacobs, Christine C. Greenwood, Andre Rochester, Eddie Hall, Molly DeNello, Amanda Roy, Catie Lewis, Peter Greenwood, Mike Coco, and Miguel Jose Matos. The mediums represented are sculpture, painting, collage, photography, and upcycled art. All 80+ pieces on exhibit will be for sale, with a cap set at $2,000 for each individual piece.
“I’m thrilled to continue to champion Parkville as a destination that promotes art and local artists,” said Carlos Mouta, CEO and founder of Parkville Management. The Hartford-based property management company owns and manages 1429 Park Street, a mixed-use historic building just across the street from the company’s popular food hall, Parkville Market. Mouta continues: “This will be a place where artists can not only show their pieces, but make money; this benefits the artist, and, effectively, the neighborhood.”
The conception of this space is credited to artist Miguel Jose Matos, who is also the Gallery Director. Matos curated the list of grand opening artists within his own personal network, the bulk of which being Hartford natives or residents. Exhibits in the 4,000+ sq ft gallery will be rotated out on a three-month basis. To date, the growing waiting list includes over 20 artist submissions, with up to five requests coming in daily. The gallery will also serve as an event space, in an effort to draw exposure to the exhibit and rotating artists.
The grand opening celebration on September 7 is open to the public and will serve complimentary light bites from Parkville restaurants. Guests are encouraged to raise a glass with a fresh brew from Dead Language Beer Project, also located at 1429 Park Street in Suite 115. The brewery, serving up European style lagers and American IPAs, will be open for service throughout the duration of the grand opening. In addition, Petrolhead Cafe, located at 1429 Park Street in Suite 117, will offer wine and small bites.
